ABOUT GARY HAMER

I reside in Robins, Iowa, which is in the east-central part of the state.  Even though we don’t have the grandeur of the mountains or the ocean, we enjoy a more subtle beauty as I hope my photos illustrate.  I’m not a full-time professional photographer, but I still sell lots of images to various local and national calendars and magazines.  In my day job, I’m an electronics technician in an engineering lab at a defense contractor that designs and builds communications equipment.  Nature photography provides a welcome change of pace.

I have completely switched over to digital.  My main camera body is the Canon 5D.  Canon lenses: 17-40L, 24-105L IS, and 100-400L IS.  I will occasionally use a 500D close-up lens added to the 100-400.  I seldom use filters, but when I do, I have a circular polarizer, a set of graduated neutral density filters and an 81B warming filter.  All serious nature photographers often use a tripod and I’m no exception, I have the Bogen (Manfrotto) 3221 and 3001 legs and a 4047 pan/ tilt head and 3055 ball head.   I occasionally pull out my Nikon 4000 dpi scanner to scan slides from my huge collection of 35mm slides.
