May 2025 - Alan, Paul, Bill and I made our spring canoe trip to the Boundary Waters. The night before the trip we stayed at the Fenske Lake campground. We entered at the Little Indian Sioux River and paddled towards Lynx Lake. The first night was spent on Upper Pauness Lake then we paddled to the east and stayed on Shell Lake a couple nights. The big excitement at the end of the 220 rod portage was me getting stuck in the muck… it took a full 15 minutes to break the suction loose on my boot!

The camp on Shell was great, we had a little waterfall just south of camp. We also had some luck fishing and enjoyed eating a nice batch of walleyes. After breaking camp on Shell we made a short paddle to Lynx Lake and stayed there three nights. This was another nice site. We took several fishing daytrips while on Lynx. After breaking our camp on Lynx, we backtracked through Shell and Lower Pauness. None of our preferred sites were open, so we continued on to Upper Pauness and made our last camp of the trip. From here we portaged back to Lower Pauness and checked out Devil’s Cascade. It was another great trip!
